Help! I Found a Cat/Kitten!

Steps Everyone Can Take To Help a Found Cat/Kitten

01

For Lost Pets

You may find a time when you come across a lost animal, especially near a busy road. While you may naturally feel the need to rescue a lost pet, the following tips will help keep both you and the animal safe.

For Adults

Adult cats are a bit trickier, and their happy ending can vary greatly.

THRIVING CAT: If the adult cat is thriving outside (healthy weight in a safe location), TNR is the absolute best option for the adult cat.

SICK CAT: If the adult cat is underweight, sick, and does not seem likely to survive then it is important to develop a plan to secure the cat AND provide at a minimum short term care.

For Kittens

The graphic included on this page is an excellent reference guide for how to evaluate found kittens. This is key in understanding the urgency of the situation, and to know if there is a momma who must be rescued with the kittens.

Fostering/Surrendering

You hear it all the time that rescues/shelters are full, and that is the never ending world we live in. Community members are finding kittens quicker than we can spay/neuter and adopt kittens out.

If you're in the position to surrender, we recommend contacting every single rescue in a drivable distance to you and perhaps one of them will have room. We also recommend offering to foster the found cat/kitten or surrendered animal until placement or adoption as this will reduce the burden placed on current fosters/rescues and allow them to promptly assist you.
